Fall Retreat 2009

The Old Testament: Ancient Document that is Scripture

Topic Summary

Dr. Walton, professor of Old Testament at Wheaton College, will be speaking to our fellowship during the retreat. Dr. Walton is the author of several books on the Old Testament and near eastern cosmology including his most recent commentary on the book of Jonah. On Friday night he will speak on "Approaching the Old Testament as an Ancient Document that is Scripture." His Saturday morning talk will focus more exclusively on the book of Genesis and how to integrate it in our scientifically minded world.

Dr. Walton's recent research has focused on comparative studies between the Old Testament and the ancient Near East. He is currently serving as the general editor for a five volume series, The Zondervan Illustrated Bible Backgrounds Commentary, and General Editor of a 20 vol. Baker Commentary Series, "Teach the Text." He is the author of a book recently published by IVP, "The Lost World of Genesis One: Ancient Cosmology and the Origins Debate".
